Kia Scores a Touchdown with these Tecmo Bowl-Inspired Commercials with Bo and "The Boz"

If you ever played Nintendo in the 80s, you almost certainly played Tecmo Bowl. At least one kid in the neighborhood had the game, and everyone would be over that house fighting over which player got to be the unstoppable Bo Jackson. For an entire generation of gamers, those specific graphics, sound effects, and songs are forever etched in their memories. The 8-bit tunes of Mario Bros, Legend of Zelda, and Tecmo Bowl are the soundtrack to many a childhood.

So it's extremely safe to say that these new commercials featuring the 2017 Kia Sorento strike a nostalgic chord at the very core of my being. Check out this first one, featuring Bo Jackson and the "MVP of SUVs" Kia Sorento, highlighting its All-Wheel Drive capability.

Here's a second one highlighting the 2017 Kia Sorento's Autonomous Emergency Braking. And this time the legendary Brian "The Boz" Bosworth makes an appearance:

“At Kia, we are always looking to stand out, and using the Sorento to take football fans inside a beloved video game and bring two legendary players roaring back in all their 8-bit glory was an opportunity that was simply too good to pass up,” said Michael Sprague, chief operating officer and EVP, Kia Motors America (KMA).

“Football fans remember these legendary players, and paired with the ever-lasting popularity of Tecmo Bowl, we believed these were the perfect channels to communicate the power, intelligence and nimble handling of the Sorento,” said Colin Jeffery, chief creative officer, David&Goliath. “The play on technology in terms of blending the old video game graphics with the new advancements in the Sorento illustrates just how far Kia has come and how advanced this SUV truly is.”

Look for these commercials to air during Sunday Night Football games starting this week.
